Porty Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Hi all, I have a client who wants me to integrate osCommerce into his site. He likes the features that osCommerce provides. The thing is, I can't find any info on how to do that. Also, my client's site (not my design) is 98% text with items being selected from drop-down boxes and then a whole package sent to the cart. Can anyone send me any links/info/etc. as to how to integrate osc into his site? I know Perl so I don't imagine that php would be too different. If integration is not possible, can someone suggest a similar cart that could be integrated? Also, would the lack of pictures (apart from the aesthetic aspect of the site) be a problem with osc integration? TIA, Riva
Guest Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 put oscommerce together as a new site if the other one is just a text base cart system. develop it offline, test it, then have him test it. make sure you get his approval, then start with a top down bottom up approach how to finish it. look at what the current site does, see where it would fit in on oscomerce and then show your client.
Porty Posted June 27, 2004 Author Posted June 27, 2004 What do I need on my computer to test it? I downloaded php and I know my client has a Windows server. Thanks for the quick reply. Riva
stevel Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Nobody will be able to suggest another cart solution here, as the forum owners will delete the suggestion. That's just the way it is... osCommerce isn't really designed around the mode of operation you're interested in. It assumes that it controls the user interaction. You could, without too much trouble, have your existing dropdown add an item to an osC cart, but you would have to include the appropriate code that starts an osC session. Then you'd have to have the add-to-cart code redirect to your current site for the customer to make further selections. You probably wouldn't mind the checkout process to be left as is, though I imagine you'd have some work to do to make it look like your site. An alternative is to use something like the Basic Template System to give your own look-and-feel to the osC store. Maybe it's time for a makeover anyway? :D Lack of pictures is not a problem.
