drfunk Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Hi guys, Got this problem and hoping someone can help me out. I've used easypopulate and it works great. What I need though is to be able to insert my products in multiple categories with easypopulate. For instance, If I have a DVD like "The Last Samurai", I want to put it into 2 categories: Drama and Action. So in my easypopulate excel sheet, I want to be able to type in Drama in one field and Action in another field so that when I import that file, My DVD "The Last Samurai" product will be displayed in those two categories. NOw I know that in the admin, you can do this, but u have to do it to each product individually. Is there something already out there that I can use or can anybody help me with this? Thanks. Guest Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 easy populate will not do this, as the products to categories encompasses two fields only, the products_id and the categories_id which means to link products together, you need both id numbers, then do an insert on them. easier done with a VB script. drfunk Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 ic. Do you think i can implement this in easy populate? Quote I'm an Idiot !
DavidF Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 This is exactly what I was trying to do. Any luck? We are selling replacement parts for machinery and many pieces of machinery that would be in different categories have common parts. I was trying to avoid having 50 seperate database lines that are for the same part, but in different categories. (In addition, if it is has the same model number, easy populate wont let you add more than one entry.) Please let me know if you find a way to do this. Quote
♥ecartz Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Easy Populate will do this. Just put the product in multiple times (apparently in separate files, although I don't see what creates this limitation): once for each category path. If you don't want to repeat all the info, just put in the products_model and category name fields. Hth, Matt Quote Always back up before making changes.
Guest Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I have come across this when I uplaoded my parts list the first time I made a mistake in categories I entered the manufacturers name with the cat name I went to change this to just the cat name and uploaded now its doubled up the list but in dif cats pain tbh I thought it would just update. If anyone has a fix for this it would be great. Quote
