dlpuma Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Hi All, I have a current ecommerce site on a different system and want to move it over to oscommerce. I'm holding back at the moment because of the URLs that are generated with oscommerce. If I could change the URLs from displaying the product_id and the category_id and in their place, the product_model and categories_name. This would help with the search engines and any redirects I need to put in place to point to my new store. This is also a lot easier of a method for me to find the URLs of my products rather than trying to remember the product_id number. If any one has an idea on where/how I can change these easily, please let me know. Thank you, dlpuma
vasttech Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 This is not an easy change. It will require some major recoding. You could set up some sort of redirect page that will take the url and break it down and redirect it to the appropriate product id. Your site will eventually get respidered by the search engines and the new links will appear. This will take some time though. osCommerce Knowledge Base osCommerce Documentation Contributions
dlpuma Posted June 25, 2004 Author Posted June 25, 2004 I don't really mind doing the major recoding... I am used to that on the current project I'm using... I've been using it for almost 5 years now, and I know how to get around in it. I just don't know where to start looking in oscommerce. Having the product models and the category names actually help my search engine rankings, as they end up being keywords. So, I'd rather go through and take the time to recode, if it is going to help in the long run on the usability/searchability of my website. Besides, others might also be interested in this option and I might be able to add it as a contrib :-) Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. --- thanks, dlpuma
