tlelliott77 Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Hi all I'm in the process of choosing a new hosting company and have I'm a bit confused about how the secure server needs to be set up. The company I'd like to change to is called webfusion.co.uk, mainly because they have been recommended to me as having excellent customer support. However, looking through their support pages they say: Does the shared secure server (secure-websites.com) support PHP or ASP?We have only implemented CGI scripting functionality, therefore PHP and ASP is not supported on the secure-websites.com area. Our standard production servers do allow ASP and PHP which can be integrated with your own secure certificate. Please contact our sales team for more information. Now I'm not sure if that means I won't be able to access OSC pages via their shared secure server or not. Speaking to the support team they tell me that if I access pages on the normal server via SSL they won't be secure - but surely that's what we all do with OSC. They reckon you need to upload all secure pages onto the secure server (i.e. 2 different upload places for seure / non-secure pages). Can anyone advise me on this? Does anyone else use webfusion (or hosteurope.com) successfully with OSC. Thanks Tim
halldorr Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 It sounds as though they aren't what you'd require...if they can't run the PHP on the server with the secure certificate it probably won't work. I'd question a company that lags behind on their servers to begin with anyway.
gazzzzzza Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 we use hosteurope they are not great, their support is not always that helpful we do have ssl though although we have a dedicated server so this may be why we upload all files to the usual ftp place and these can only be accessed through https:// (we have inputted some code that redirects you if you go to http://) try DSVR for hosting-i think they are better always here to offer some useless advice....
tlelliott77 Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 Thanks for the comments. DSVR may be good but are very expensive by the looks of things. Anyone else with any recommendations? Thanks Tim
gazzzzzza Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 i use namehog (www.namehog.net) to host my own website they run php on all packages (inc cheapest one) but you need the second cheapest if you want mysql to go with it. they are ok and the support is generally helpful not sure about ssl though as i do not have a need to use it so have never enquired i definately advise against hosteurope though ;) always here to offer some useless advice....
