Haans Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Hi! I'm currently setting up osCommerce as an online version of my store. I run a small second-hand CD/DVD store. Products that I sell in my shop need to be removed from the inventory immediately, so that my online customers don't risk buying products that are already out-of-stock. I tried the LiveSales POS contribution, but it's not working very well for me. I need something that is easy and quick to use and has the following features: - Search for product - Add product to order - Check out and subtract from stock I don't need to add customer details or anything like that, just a simple "cash register" that removes stock from inventory. No need to print receipt or anything. If I was the least experienced in PHP, I would do this myself, but I'm not... Anyone? Hans Kristian Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.
Haans Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 Anyone? I'm thinking something like a very simple and quick version of the shop, that just has the functionality I need, and instead of going through the payment/shipping process, just has a "confirm"-button or something that subtracts the appropriate stock from the inventory. Add products to the cart by searching for them and press "Add" or just typing in the appropriate catalog number. The shopping process would be something like - Search for product or type in cat# - Add to cart - Search for another product or type in cat# - Add to cart - Confirm to remove them from stock Best would be if one could run it from a separate directory (f.ex. www.yourshop.com/pos/ ), and then password-protect that directory for security. That way, one wouldn't have to bother with logging in to the cash-register. Should be very easy to make for someone with a little experience I should think ;) Here's me hoping someone will be able to help... Cheers, Hans Kristian Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.
Altec Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ns,1534/page,17 http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ns,1730/page,17 maybe look at using one these 2 contributions and just remove the features you dont want from the store you run in the shop you trade from, that way you can just buy your own stock from the site and it will automatically be deducted. Its not a computer its a life management system!
Haans Posted June 22, 2004 Author Posted June 22, 2004 Thanks for that, but it looks a whole lot more difficult and advanced than what I need :( Besides, I'm not confident enough in PHP to even try to modify these contribs to suit my needs. If anyone would be interested in programming a contribution along these lines (I reckon it would take less than an hour for an experienced programmer that knows his or her way around OSC), I'll be happy to tell them what functionality is needed. I would think this is a very basic contrib that that many users would find useful. I'm actually amazed nobody brought this up before ;) Anyone willing to give it a go, please contact me via ICQ, YM or MSN Cheers, Hans Kristian Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.
Haans Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 Bringing this up once more, begging for help! Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.
ice-man Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 When you add a new product to the catalog, you can choose how many you have in stock. Wouldn't just choosing "1" solve your problem?
ryanf Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Why don't you just update the quantity of the item from admin? If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.
Haans Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 The problem is that I'll be selling both online and in my shop. Let's say I have 1 copy of a certain title on DVD. If I sell it in the shop, I want to delete it from the inventory immediately. ice-man: If I had more than one of each title, that would do the trick, but my stock is second-hand, and I usually only have one of each title. Besides, a solution like the one I described is much more user friendly and is a solution to a problem rather than a workaround ;) ryanf: Updating from the admin takes too much time and is too much of a hassle. I need something that is quick and easy, so that a part-time employee can do it without having to meddle around in the admin system. As far as I can tell, it's just a matter of writing a few simple php-scripts that query the database and write to it. Sort of a very cut down version of the shopping cart. I would do it myself if I was at all experienced in PHP, but I'm not. ;) I should think more people would be interested in such a contrib? I can't believe I'm the only one running both a shop and an online store with the same inventory? :D Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.
Guest Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 The MOECTOE Beta contribution ( http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri.../search,moectoe ) may do the trick. There are still a few minor hiccups and we may have to beg Dreamscape to continue the work on it, however, it is already fine for me. B)
