djcronos
Hey all, I have a client who would like to start using OSCommerce. He wants to take his old database from his Yahoo Store and import it into the new OSCommerce db. The company my client used to deal with have been friendly and helpful as much as I can see. They have told me I have two options to import it, but are not sure which route is the best to go. They have two different file formats they can send me - an XML file that the Yahoo store uses, and an Excel Spreadsheet. One problem with the Excel Spreadsheet is that it removed a lot of the formatting of the database (such as categories and sub categories), so I would have to individually add each item, which I do not believe to be time effective. To sum it all up in one question, is there a contribution I can use to convert the Yahoo Store into OSCommerce? Thanks to all in advance.
joeyjgarcia
I would ask for both formats. The XML would probably give you the categories and you (or some programmer) can write a parser that will give you the data any way you want, for a small fee of course. Do they have it in a database at all? That would be the most idea, but to be honest XML will probably tell you the most about the structure. There is a popular osC Contribution called easypopulate that will help you do a mass import, but I doubt there is anything submitted already that doesn't require any tweaking. You may be the person who steps up and makes it, since you already have the desire to have one, and the needed data. Joey
djcronos
Hi, Thanks for the response. I actually have both formats, the XML and the Excel Spreadsheet. If hiring a programmer to take the XML and convert it into a file that OSCommerce can work with efficiently is the thing to do, then I will do that. On that note, is anyone out there interested in helping me out with this? I am willing to pay. PM me or respond to this post. Thanks again.
