Permissions

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /u/htdocs/doncar/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.re.php

That is the message I get, I changed the perimissions to 706, and the page didn't show up in my browser. What is the proper permissions?

Thanks

Mario.

If you use a program like WS_FTP to upload your files, once you've connected to the server you can just right-click the file name or directory you want to change permissions on and then click the CHMOD option. Then make sure the only box that's checked for each of the three is the 'Read' option, which is equivalent to '4'.

For a good explanation of CHMOD, see:

Well this is not working for me as the file that I am trying to change permissions on is on my local machine. It is my configure.php file. I am trying to run my site locally and am almost there but this error keeps poping up about user permissions and that I need to change them to the correct permissions for this file. Can I change permissions with a text editor like crimpson editor? Thanks

If it's on your local machine just go to the bottom of includes/application_top.php and set this line.

define('WARN_CONFIG_WRITEABLE', 'false');

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
