Hi,

I am making a large store, which will have at least 1000 attributes.

Every product will have 5-20 UNIQUE attributes.

Well, It's mission impossible in web admin, what is the best way then ?

I tried Easy Populate and it cleaned one of my head categories(I have 3) :(

I have added attributes to 700 products on a clients shop using Easypopulate v2.72-MS2 (with attributes, mulilingual and table index).

I suggest you test the above contrib - & check the readMe's & the EasyPopulate_Manual.

In the manual it says:

Each EP file must have the header row in place.  If you upload a file without the headers, EP will throw out your first row of data.

This could be why you lost your data.

Good Luck. :)

I use the newest version (without master products support) and my problem is that when I create EP attribute file and import it(without editing), it removes all my products which have Model-number.

I made a Contribution that I haven't made submitted yet because I too hate the product attibutes interface. Currently I have osc forum members beta testing it before I submit it. Let me know if you want to beta test it too. If I can just get a couple of people to give me feedback on the results of the installation and the installation instructions and it all checks out then I'll submit it.

Mine works a little differently, but will still save a lot of time and can probably be modified by an experience PHP programmer to do everything in one click.

Here is how mine works.

1) I made an interface for creating an Attribute Set. Pick how many attributes this set will have, then you select which attributes you want in this set. Keep making as many sets as you need until you've made all the possible sets your site uses. For example, I sell shirts so I need set that for sizes such as Size: S-XL,Size: S-2XL, Size: S-3XL, etc...

2) When I add a product I have a new drop-down list where I select which attribute this product needs. For example I am select Size: 2-4XL.

That would be it for me, my product would be displayed with a Size drop down list for sizes Small thru XXXXL.

I enhanced it for others who may need more attributes, but it may not be as nice as you'd like but it is pretty close. My enhancement is when you edit a product it will show that Attribute Set that you have added to this product plus one more Attribute Set in case you wanted to add another one, or if you wanted to remove all attributes from this product then you just set the drop down list to "-- none --".

So this means you will have to edit your product 5 to 20 times.

Either way, I think the Product Attribtue utility is poorly designed, it just takes way too much time!

Your Contribution isn't for me, I think.

Because I must make own attributes for every product.

Product's attributes for example:

25x25mm [123456]

30x30mm [234567]

and so on....

That's why I can use one attribute only once, because every attribute has code.

And my problem is: what is the best way add about 1000 attributes, when every attribute is unique.

I solved my problem with easypopulate.

The reason was that all quanities was 0 (because my stock control is disabled).

Now I have one problem left.

It is a little impractical add so much attributes with web interface.

My easypopulate-attributes-file is already too big for excel.

Best way for me would be that attributes can add same way than the product description or image...
