Need help - local host setup

I am having a really tough time getting this local server up and running. Basically so far I have installed phpmyadmin on to my local webroot and installed mysql on to my desktop.

Now when I type in the url "http://localhost/phpMyAdmin-2.6.0-alpha2/index.php" I get the following login screen:

phplogin_screen.jpg

But when I try to login the page just times out. Is the username and password used here the ones that are setip in config.inc.php and matching my sql username and password?

Below is my config.ink file:

<?php
/* $Id: config.inc.php,v 2.18 2004/05/05 10:05:29 nijel Exp $ */
// vim: expandtab sw=4 ts=4 sts=4:

/**

*
* All directives are explained in Documentation.html
*/

/**
* Sets the php error reporting - Please do not change this line!
*/
if (!isset($old_error_reporting)) {
   error_reporting(E_ALL);
   @ini_set('display_errors', '1');
}

/**
* Your phpMyAdmin url

* Complete the variable below with the full url ie
*    http://localhost/phpMyAdmin-2.6.0-alpha2/
*
* It must contain characters that are valid for a URL, and the path is
* case sensitive on some Web servers, for example Unix-based servers.
*
* In most cases you can leave this variable empty, as the correct value
* will be detected automatically. However, we recommend that you do
* test to see that the auto-detection code works in your system. A good
* test is to browse a table, then edit a row and save it.  There will be
* an error message if phpMyAdmin cannot auto-detect the correct value.
*
* If the auto-detection code does work properly, you can set to TRUE the

Can anyone push me in right direction on this?

Thanks

Just login using 'root' - leave the password field blank - use exactly the same for your osCommerce installation.

Thanks, but that didn't work. I typed in root in the username and it tries opening page for several minutes and times out.

I've got winmysql open at time.

Any ideas?

Mark
