Destra
I am having a strange problem with my website taking forever to load. In admin I set to show page parse time and on my main page it takes 75+ seconds. My current webhost is moving their systems and this is where all the problems started. It?s been about a week and still no gain in speed. The strange thing is that admin is as fast as before with page parse times of 2- seconds. I thought maybe I screwed it up but I downloaded my whole site and tried it on my local machine and parse times are 1- seconds. I am not using persistent connections or anything non-standard. Has anybody else had this type of problem? Current webhost stats: Server Host: gorkon.momentous.ca (64.86.0.110)Database Host: sql.megasqlservers.com (64.86.0.107) Server OS: FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE-p3 Database: MySQL 4.0.18-log Server Date: 06/05/2004 03:47:45 Database Date: 06/05/2004 03:47:45 Server Up Time: 3:47AM up 7 days, 3:33, 3 users, load averages: 0.12, 0.18, 0.21 HTTP Server: Apache/1.3.29 (Unix) FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.3.6 mod_ssl/2.8.16 OpenSSL/0.9.7c PHP Version: 4.3.4 (Zend: 1.3.0) Are there any changes that should be made? Also I am thinking of switching hosts and is using a host with IIS just as easy to setup osCommerce as with Apache? Any recommended hosts in Canada? user99999999
Its a problem with your hosting company. It should be less then 1 sec. Nothing you can do in the PHP code can take away 75 sec.
Destra
Yeah that is what I figure but is there anything that they could have changed that would cause such a performance hit? It was never extremely fast to begin with but this is just ridiculous. Also is osCommerce just as easy to install on IIS as on an Apache web server? user99999999
Probably your host added 255 more web sites like yours on the server. I would stick with *nix/Apache, even Windows/Apache has problems see http://zend.com WinEnabler.
Guest
I'm having page-load problems as well. It seems to be getting slower as time goes by. I'm using Shared SSL and remotely connecting to the DB, so this probably causes a little lag time. But it's getting realllyyyyy ssslllowww, seemingly more and more each day. I've contacted my web host and am awaiting their response. They seem to like to monkey around with things, because I've had to reinstall several of my apps over the past few weeks. It's my first time using cpanel, too, and I'm thinking it might also be part of the problem, as it seems to be buggy as heck. I HOPE I don't have to reinstall osC again, but I've done it four times so at least I have a little experience with that side of things. While I'm awaiting response from my host, I thought it prudent to continue this thread in the hope that my experience can enlighten someone else. Also, if anyone has any ideas what could be causing 15+ second load times (aside from a remote db connection and the use of shared SSL), I'm all ears. Daemonj
Change to a better host that doesn't overload their shared servers with too many accounts. That would be my first suggestion. ;) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. Papadish
I have a client who is complaining the site is too slow, and they chose to go with Go-Daddy. This seems to be a company that would definately overload servers. No? I am using Host Monster for most of my sites and have no speed issues, even a photography site with tons of video, slideshows, and images.
satish
Speed issues can be due to many reasons: 1. Slow server. 2. Over loaded server. 3. Huge unindexed data base. 4. Improper or unoptimized code. First two not in your control so go and check if db indexing done proper or not. Then use parse time code and analyse which code block is taking time. its generally because of sql code so also check using slow sql log.
