how to add text box to products??

on my site, www.yourbuckles.com, customers order custom buckles so they need to tell me what they want them to say and i have had them using the comments box at checkout to do it but it gets confusing for some people

is there a way for me to add a textbox to the products so that they can type in what they would like and when they add the item, what they typed will show up in the shopping cart

i know i can use the product attributes but that will take forever
