Need for speed II

I wrote a message previously about speeding up my site. I have been working for a couple of days on adding products, and is was bogging down.

 

I turned up the gzip to 8, turned on caching, and turned off category count. These things seemed to help.

 

My site (under construction) is www.perfectracing.com . If anybody ever gets a minute to go there, please let me know if I'm making any glaring osCommerce errors.

 

Also, what are the disadvantages of gzip? If I just run it at 9, will the sky fall down?

This contrib helps a lot with loading speed. But be careful, later you will be changing stuff like enabling/disabling shipping methods and will scratch your head as to why nothing changes, that's because it only updates the cache when you change something under Configuration.

Update: looks like the updated version of this contrib took care of the problem aforementioned. Nice!
