digitales Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 I have been following these forums for some time, and have finally reached a stage where I would appreciate any comments, both negative or positive. The site is: mimicards.com Also thanks to everyone who has helped with the coding of the site. Regards, Ross t
billybrag Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 i like it looks good :) just not sure about the blue search box, ;looks a little funny, but nothing major "because it'll hurt more"- the greatest film of all time?
bluepony Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 You should block some of your folders from being indexed. For example: http://www.mimicards.com/catalog/images/. It helps to prevent someone from snooping around or downloading files. You can use .htaccess with the 'Options -Indexes' option. Or just create a empty file named index.html in that folder. I'd rather be flying!
phooey04 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Nice job with the snazzy design - it's unique but still very functional. A few of suggestions: 1. Think about developing an alternate way to organize your greeting cards by occasion (birthday, Father's Day etc.). Organizing by artist is fine, but a search by "occasion" would be more convenient for many people. 2. Don't forget to complete your "About Us" page. 3. Purchase and install a SSL site certificate or use a shared SSL provided by your ISP. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with the business. Jay
digitales Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 Thanks everyone for the comments, bluepony- thanks for the advice, i hadn't thought about using index.htm pages to stop people snooping around the directory. I will do this in a bit. phooey04- I was thinking about sorting the cards by occasion, but was trying to get my head around all this php coding, but know the basics are done I can concentrate on making the site easier to use. With regard to SSL, my host provides a SSL server, which is physically separate from the main site, but I am still working on getting that working. Also the blue search box was to break up the pink on the left hand side, but that is just my opinion. Once again thanks for the constructive comments, Ross t
