I notice a message popping up in my lower left column saying that I do not have SSL enabled. How do I go about doing that and where. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. I think I am scaring my customers away without it.

Thanks

First off you need a ssl certificate. If you do not have probably the best place to start is with your hosting company. If you do have one you need to change your settings in your configure.php file to reflect this.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Before you change anything, did you buy a ssl certificate or does your hosting supplies you with a shared ssl certificate?

Hi Bear....I contacted support and this was their reply.

We suppose that this is a message from OsCommerce. Please note that SSL is enabled by default for your account. To use SSL, you will need to access your site, using

https://blacklightshopantiques.com/

Please update your OsCommerce setup to use https instead of http.

So I suppose I have the certificate. Is that correct?

Thanks

Billy

I don't know why sometimes when you post a topic it seems you are always one reply away from your answer. It is not meant as inflammatory but frustration.

When I click https://blacklightshopantiques.com/

I get a certificate error. So despite what your host is telling you, you do not have a secure https link.

https works but it's not secure because no certificate is established.

In addition your site is running like a three legged dog, speedwise.

It looks like you've got mixed content on the page (linked external scripts or images) but I gave up waiting for the site to load via https.

Hi Alan......I opened up a certificate import wizard and have gotten as far as selecting either automatically select a certificate store based on the type of certificate or browse for a certificate store. Would I select auto? Waiting for your reply

Thanks

Hate to keep badgering you but where do I begin to correct that. I know I have some javascript probably in there that is not active now. How do I go about searching for linked images.

Thanks

You'll never see a padlock when you've got direct links to images like you do here. http://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/icon/verification_seal.gif

You're importing non secure content to a page you want to be secure.

Plus you've got this: src="http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter.js"

Strip out all the junk till you've got the secure site working correctly then add it back following these guidelines http://wiki.oscommerce.com/WarnSecurity

Hi Alan...I believe I have stripped all of the script from the site but I have been all over my file manager and have opened every file except the one where I have the PayPal logo. I have check my left column box three times but do not see it anywhere. Looking forward to a reply.

Thanks

Your site is virtually unusable now. I've seen it before and it was more or less OK. Now just to load http://www.blacklightshopantiques.com/ it took 90 seconds before I saw anything but a blue screen. And I'm on fairly speedy dsl.

I'd go back to basics and build up again. Your host may be overloading its servers.

As to the ssl issue: I've yet to see anyone here make a self signed ssl certificate work. Maybe some people have with no problems but anyone who posted here with ssl problems has failed.

That fancy slide show with who knows how many pre-loaded images comes at a very high price.

Are you trying to sell stuff or show off fancy scripting?

Well that was the next thing I was going to do cut it way down. Actually there are 24 images and I was going to go down to six. I can't understand when I open my site for the first time online it only takes about 15-20 seconds. I on Comcast Broadband. Any ideas on that one.

Thanks
