How can customer order only FREE item?

Out of 50+ items we sell we have two(2) FREE items.

 

If the customer buys something AND orders a FREE item no proplem.

BUT if they ONLY order the FREE item the Payment page still requires their credit card number.

Only the rare person would continue...

 

Is there a way to check for a ZERO ($0.00) Order total and BYPASS the Payment section?

 

I've checked the archive and have yet to find an answer.

(I'm still using an old version - v 1.2 2002/01/03 if that makes any difference.)

well you can get some one to code it for you if balance =0 then no payment requried, or perhaps enable cod and tell them to"purchase " it cod and the balance would be forgiven,,, just a thought
