Hi Everyone!!!

I'm newly registered to the forum and recently started using osCommerce. I've been setting up a website for my wife in the last 4 weeks and now it's ready. I'd really appreciate if you could take a couple of minutes and review the site and give me feedback so it looks more professional. I know I have to work on the logo...

The site is live at http://www.nitwear.com

All comments, opinions and feedback are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks!!!

Thanks! I got the template someplace else because I don't do very well when it comes to design... I just discovered PWA (reading your information) and I'm going to install it ASAP because I think it's a good thing for your customers (especially when they are going to pay with PayPal and have to register TWICE  ).

What do you think about the image size and the popup window?

Really like the image size and the pop up !

Sites seems to load a little slow though , and thats me thinking that i'm on 512 adsl , just imagine people on dial up ! <_<

Do you think I should reduce the number of products by page? I just reduced the new products from 9 to 3... Was there any particular page that you found out to be very slow? Or is it overall thru ought the site?

I optimized all the images to the smallest size I could. Most of them are ~12-15k. Would it be better to have more pages with fewer items per page?

The site looks great, but unfortunately it is the design elements that are causing the slow download times. See if you can replace some of the graphics with stylesheet elements to reduce bandwidth.

Also, I think your wife would benefit from having a professionally designed logo. Consider using a firm like LogoWaves or LogoWorks. Their designs are terrific and inexpensive. Your site is classy, you might as well get a logo to match.

Finally, some of your pages stretch beyond the 1024 pixels, like this one:

Sexy Strapless Bra Set I. Not sure what is causing it - maybe the product picture?

P.S. How much are you charging the misses? ;)

I think that the website is going over the 1024 pixels because of the long model descriptions. I will have to change the model desc so the page does not open that wide.

Regarding the logo we're in the process of getting a professional one. I'm really concerned about the "weight" of the site <_< . I already changed the # of new products to 6 and the number of products to list to 6. If the performance of the site does not improve I will really be reconsidering changing the whole layout of the site.

The problem with this site is that I really need to make a GOOD impression with the pictures because customers need to see every detail of the goods.

Some of your folders can be indexed. I would lock those down so the contents cannot be displayed or downloaded.

I'd rather be flying!

Thanks! PWA is Purchase Without Account. How do I block the 'index' of files in the site? Do I have to change the permissions on the folder? I've been unable to figure it out... can anybody give me a clue?

Yeah, I'd like to do this also, never thought of people being able to do it.

If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.

Not sure if this is a good answer, but I just added an blank index.html file to my images page. When people try to get into your images folder, they will only see your blank page.

You must be getting a lot of traffic by now

The blank index.html works fine and you can also change it site wide in apache config by removing Options Indexes.

I still haven't been able to figure out how to modify the options indexes on the website. I tried looking in the docs of apache.org but I was unable to figure it out. Could anyone recommend someplace I could read or look for more information???

Thanks!

Ok a little note. You don't have the re-do the product descriptions. There is a php command "wordwrap" (I think that's it)...that will automatically wrap a text string.

I don't know the command syntax off the top of my head but it was something like:

wordwrap($product_info['product_description'], 75)

And 75 being the number of characters.

You might want to download the PHP manual (EXTREMELY helpful) and search for that command.

I ♥ PHP/MYSQL/CSS
