GraphicsGuy
I think this contribution is what you are looking for: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,483 Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. nrlatsha
This may be good for you, but personally, I hate when websites take over my browser. If I want to see the shopping cart, I'll look in the shopping cart infobox. just my 2... 9 times out of 10 its a PEBCAK Error (Problem exists between chair and keyboard) Replace that and you're fine... nrlatsha
The only two things that burn me up and make me want to leave is: 1. Putting info in the status bar area, like text or shopping cart, makes me think they are trying to hide something for some reason. I can't see the link when I hover it then. 2. When they change the color of the scroll bar on the right, ohhh I just can't stand that. And.... 3. Music, when music plays when I hit a website, like some crappy midi or wav file, you can catch me in your server logs under: Less than .01 seconds... That should be my #1. 4. Disable right click. I can understand for pictures and stuff, but I can still find a way to get them. In fact, I don't steal images, but when someone does this, I make it a point to try to get them... And what am I going to do? Steal your source? If you're site is all static HTML, I don't want to steal your frames.... Watermarks are so much better looking that a "function disabled" message. I utilize the "open in new window" right click alot... 5. This doesn't burn me up, or make me leave, but an "add me to your favorites" button. I know how to add bookmarks, I don't go to sites and say, "where is the add bookmark button at, I really like this site." No, it says to me, "If you found this page, you must be new to computers and the internet, so you can add whats called a 'bookmark' and mark this page so you can come back later." Yeah, if all the content you can find to fill this page is a bookmark icon, I think one visit is enough... Don't let #5 turn anybody off now, I know some great sites that have them, but still, c'mon now... Just some thoughts, anybody else have some feelings on this too? 9 times out of 10 its a PEBCAK Error (Problem exists between chair and keyboard) Replace that and you're fine... GraphicsGuy
This topic is drifting and might be better in the General Chit Chat section, but this is some good info to discuss because annoying website tactics can cost a site a lot of lost opportunities. My opinions (borrowing from the numbered points by nrlatsha): 1. Status text - Doesn't bother me 2. Changes to scroll bars - Probably my 3rd biggest website irritation. 3. Music - Unless its a tune I really like, it bothers me. Since everybody likes different music - I don't think its a good idea. 4. Right click disable - doesn't bother me 5. Add to favorites - Doesn't bother me. My 2nd biggest annoyance is pop-up advertising while I am visiting a site. And the number one most annoying to me - windows that popup when I leave the site. I am leaving the site, let that be it. I might be back. But harrass me with those latent pop-ups and I won't be. nrlatsha
You're right about the drifting. I forgot about popups my G00gle toolbar takes care of those with ease... 9 times out of 10 its a PEBCAK Error (Problem exists between chair and keyboard) Replace that and you're fine...
