scottstorm_1
I thought OSCommerce was open source and could not be sold commercially by anyone? is this permissable?
agiftcodotcom
per the Open Source Definition Free Redistribution No restrictions are placed on parties from selling of giving away the software. Destra
They also added contributions and as long as they issue all source code it is okay. Although $69 is alot for free software, would make me made if paid and found out it is free.
vasttech
Not to say that selling free software is right, but in their defense you have to think of it this way. If I develop a store for you using osCommerce, I am going to charge you for my time. They are charging for the time it took to put the contributions in and make a working copy (hopefully bug free)...thus reducing the time to implement a site for someone who would like to get up and running quick. In that mind set $69 is pretty cheap, seeing as that is about an hour and half at the rates I charge... :D And I know it has taken me more then an hour and half to get my site to work properly... ;) osCommerce Knowledge Base osCommerce Documentation Contributions
johnk
I saw one site selling it for US$600 plus. I nearly fell over because I couldn't see that they had done any significant changes. It does seem a bit unfair at first glance, but if they helped deveolp the program for us to use I guess they're entitled to some return.
