sadsonic Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Feature: buying two different items enables discount Hi, I am selling car-equipment, and want to give my customers a discount if they buy fx. one screen and one dvd-player. Is it possible to make osC calcuate a discount when these two products are added to the cart ? I could just make one item featuring the two products, but then I cant keep track of my inventory that well. Hope you can help .. Sadsonic
Acheron Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Not sure if it exists (haven't looked) but it would be a good addition imho. I would like to do something similar by giving away a free gift with the purchase of 2 items in a certain class. Anyway, if it doesn't exist, this one gets my vote as well. :)
stevel Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I have something like this for my site, except in my case it's what I call a "mix-and-match" discount where if you buy combinations of products in a certain class, you get a quantity discount. I do intend to put this into a contribution, but it is complicated and I haven't had the time to finish it. I started with the "Classes of Products" contribution (and fixed the bugs in it.) Now for my case, I added a new Order Total module to compute the discount. For a free gift, you could create a discount equal to the price of the gift. You could have the customer add the gift to their order themselves, or figure out a way to add it automatically (and only when the right combination is present, and make sure that it goes away if the customer removes items from their cart.) Guest Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 I would love to find a contribution that could do this. My scenario is complicated any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated: 1 tub = 3.50 2 tub = 3.25 3 tub = 3.00 4 tub = 2.75 5 tub = 2.50 6 tub = 2.25 7 tub+ = 2.00 These tubs can be a selection of 9 types of insects, and 8 possible sizes per tub. example buy: 2xcricket tubs, 3xlocust tubs, 1xmealworm tubs, will cost 6 x 2.25 = 13.50 total. My thoughts where to create a category called mix&match then have seven products underneath: Insect Pick&Mix 1 tub 2 tub 3 tub 4 tub 5 tub 6 tub 7 tub+ This way I could carry the price across and use attributes to handle the rest but its a major pain doing all these attributes, andI think it would be a pain also for customers, Master Products with attributes I am working on to see if this can work. Anyone else any thoughts on this problem PLEASE PLEASE do help me out I am pulling me hair out, whats left anyrd. :D
stevel Posted June 3, 2004 Posted June 3, 2004 I considered that approach - you're right, it's a major pain. I've got what you want on my store, but it isn't in a form I can give you, as I didn't put in more general code that you would want. For example, I have only two price levels. I did start on making this into a contribution, but have not had time to complete it.
