Need a persistent cart for casual visitors

How do I allow casual (unregistered) visitors to have a persistent cart like the one OSC offers to logged on members. (Say with a life of one month).

I've tried changing the value of cookie_lifetime in application.top but the cart still dies as soon as I leave the site.

Next question(s)

1. Can I achieve what I'm trying to do? If yes:

2. what do I change so that it will work?

3. Will a cookie actually be created on a localhost text machine?

4. Is there a better way of doing this?

Why do it in the first place? you may ask. My site doesn't sell anything. It's an information site and I want casual visitors to be able to build up a "wish list" if you like. I don't want them to register or log on - it's a waste of everyone's time. To bad if someone else uses their computer and stuffs up the wish list. It will

be their problem, not mine and it won't be that important anyway.

All help gratefully accepted.

Come on girls and guys, my questions can't be that tough. It would be nice to get a reply to this and other posts I've made in the past. It's not like I asking for help to change the site design or anything.
