Need help with international shipping fees

When an international (across the Atlantic) customer comes to my site (www.goodnewsclothing.com) and puts a few items (~4) in their cart and starts to check out the shipping fees are HUGE. One customer said that they get items shipped to them for under $20 from the US to the UK. Can someone validate these lower rate charges and if so, can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you want, try it yourself, just don't confirm the order and you'll what I mean.

If you need an example address try this:

Postal Code: GL1 1TA

City: Gloucester

State: Glos

Thanks for any help.

I can't speak to the price of shipping US to UK, but sending from Canada to UK, here are approximate costs/weights in kilograms in US dollars for air mail delivery (7-15 business days). It ain't cheap!!!

(For reference, 1kg = about 2.2 pounds.)

0.25:  $ 6.00
0.50:  $11.00
1.00:  $20.00
2.00:  $30.00
2.50:  $42.00
3.00:  $48.00
3.50:  $55.00
4.00:  $60.00

For surface mail, prices are quite a bit less, but delivery time is up to 8 weeks:

0.25:  $ 4.00
0.50:  $ 6.00
1.00:  $10.00
2.00:  $14.00
2.50:  $28.00
3.00:  $30.00
3.50:  $33.00
4.00:  $38.00

Shipping is a big problem.

My store is located in Israel, and to get a product across the ocean I received rates from Fedex of about US$40 - US$50 for .5Kg!

I'm also searching for cheaper solutions. Hope I find them.

If at first you don't succeed, you must be a programmer.

If that is saying that 3 Kg cost $48 that is in the ballpark that another member of these forums said about my site's charges and he said that was just absolutely outragous, and it is, but that is what it costs.

Now, I wouldn't buy a shirt overseas if I had to pay that kind of shipping, but at least you are confirming my shipping module for that amount of weight (~ 5lbs).

Thanks, I appreciate your input!

No way should shipping be that high on something that is not heavy (example a shirt). 50$ to send a 20$ shirt ? (No way does a shirt or even two shirts weigh 3 kilos!)

I regularly get stuff sent from the US (bought from ebay), nothing costs more than about 15$ or so. I even had an shimano XT gearset sent (fairly heavy) and that only cost about 25$.

I guess the question here is, is it a bug in my shipping module or is the weight too much is is that what it costs to ship overseas for the common consumer?

Anyone can go to the UPS or USPS site and run the numbers for themselves.

Thanks for your input everyone!!
