dlsodders Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Hello, Im trying to understand how the UPS mod works. When a user purchases something from my site it automatically has ground shipping at 6.50. For items that dont weigh enough to justify that cost it doesnt make sense. Is there a way to set the UPS mod up to recognize weight and apply shipping cost resepctfully? Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Did you ever get an answer to this? I have the same question. Quote
cdi-buy.com Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 (edited) Anything under 1 lb is still calculated by UPS as 1 lb. I use USPS for anything lighter than 1-2 lbs because of cost. No one wants to pay $6.50+ shipping for a shirt or greeting card. USPS is more reasonable with light items - Greeting cards can be shipped for 60 cents. Edited June 15, 2004 by cdi-buy.com Quote
Guest Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 cdi- Thanks for the info. Are there any complications when shipping UPS international? Do the rates get calculated properly? thx Mike H Quote
cdi-buy.com Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 I don't ship internationally so I'm not sure. I know for the UK they're reasonable although still expensive for obvious reasons. Quote
Guest Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 FYI...I've found the USPS to be a pretty good choice for my 1lb packages to Europe. If you use Airmail Letter Post it's $8.70 to the UK. Quote
cdi-buy.com Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 keep in mind airmail letter post is only good for letters. Quote
mugitty Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 keep in mind airmail letter post is only good for letters. Not so... from the USPS website: "Letter-post" is a generic term that encompasses all of the classes of international mail that were formerly categorized as LC (Letters and Cards) and AO (Other Articles). This includes letters and letter packages, postcards and postal cards, aerogrammes, printed matter, and small packets. Letter-post items have the following characteristics: a. They have different shapes, sizes, and contents. b. They weigh 4 pounds or less. c. They are subject to the provisions of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Convention. Letter-post items can be sent as either airmail or economy (surface) mail. They may contain any mailable matter that is not prohibited by the destination country, and at the sender's option, they may be prepared in the form of a "self-mailer" (i.e., without being enclosed in an envelope or wrapper). Such items must have all their open sides secured with tape, tabs, or wafer seals to prevent them from opening during postal handling. Special services such as registry, recorded delivery, return receipt, and restricted delivery may be added on a country-specific basis. Guest Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 cdi.... That's what I thought at first too. But when I took it to the PO the suggested airmail LETTER post... If you read (as mugitty did) the actual USPS docs, you'll see their titles don't really define the package very well. thx MH Quote
cdi-buy.com Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 cool. I always just assumed since its called Letter Post it means...well...letter post. lol. learn somethin' new everyday... Quote
