ptrau Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 Searched the forums without result. We have developed dozen's of OSC sites for both ourselves and clients and have never experienced a problem like this. We have over 1000 core items and over 10,000 sku's with attributes. On our machines both at work and at home, we can view all products properly with no problems. Our client however, says product pages just show up blank. I would really question this except that Froogle sent back a message saying the same thing. We have a heavily mod'ed site but all of our sites are. We simply can't seem to replicate the problems on any of our machines. We use the latest release versions of OSC, PHP4, MySQL and Apache (our development servers are version-mathced with our live servers). We have tested the site for cross-browser compatibility down to IE4 and NS4, AOL's crappy browser, Mozilla, etc with no problems. We keep our browser caches clear so we are not viewing cached pages. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have an educated idea as to what could be causing it?. See the development site at: http://www.tajmahalrugsuperstore.com/fmax_taj Thanks in advance for any assistance. "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"
Drew B Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 Maybe this helps? Im on a T1 connection in california using a intel p4 3.2 with 2gig ram on winXP tweaked for performance, nothing else running in the background, and the product images load very slowly. When I clicked to go to next page some product doesnt load up at all, it times out and shows the "big red X". In my opinion might be the images? Or maybe the server? Altogether a connection issue. If your clients are on DSL or dial up, I would be surprised if the product images loaded up at all. Nice product, just the place I needed to go!
Acheron Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I had the same problem. Progress bar from the index was loading very slowly, then I received this for the product_info.php page: Action canceled Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable. Now I know I didn't cancel the page load so I assume it timed out or there is a script stopping me ??
ptrau Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 Thanks ...we are checking the image sizes to see if that is the problem...duh....we always look to the code first instead of something simple "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"
ptrau Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 Thanks Drew.....the images we are using for the time being are HUGE. They have to be to be able to display the quality necessary. We will load some resized thumbs and see if that is the problem. Thanks "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"
241 Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 sorry but I found no issue in I.E.6 nor Mozilla and with heavy firewall settings no issue. No longer giving free advice. ptrau Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 Thanks for replies. It appears that the image sizes were causing browsers to break or timeout without displaying any error messages on some machines. We have enabled an "auto thumbnail" contrib for testing to reduce image sizes. The "click to enlarge" option on the product page still displays the original size and quality images in VBF(very big file) format . If we could get a couple of folks to test the products pages now, it would be greatly appreciated. http://www.tajmahalrugsuperstore.com/fmax_taj "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"

What are the file sizes (roughly) for full size and for thumbnails?
Guest Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 No problem here. I am on DSL 512k connection. I user Mozilla firefox to view it and everything loaded even it was quite heavy but not slow for me Richard
Guest Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 When I clicked on the link for 'Shaw Living--STUDIO--SOFTWARE--SOFTL44T'and several others it returned a blank page.
ptrau Posted May 24, 2004 Author Posted May 24, 2004 Thanks for the feedback. All I have determined so far is that some can and some can't see it. That's not a good thing. "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"
ryanf Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 when I click on any of the products I just get blank pages. It only does in on the product_info pages, paste your code so we can take a look at it you might have to post application top too. If I was crafty, this would be a funny signature.
berkedam Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 In Mozilla your right column, starting page, is 280px wide? IE 6 and Opera: no immediate problems In Moz + IE 6: on the startingpage in the month May, click on any product returns a white screen :( In Opera the product show. BTW seen this already? Fatal Error: cannot find "hmpro6.dtd"; tried http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A/...e.com/fmax_taj/ and pls. spend a few seconds on this one: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validat...e.com/fmax_taj/ "If you're working on something new, then you are necessarily an amateur."
