Bardey Posted May 20, 2004 Posted May 20, 2004 Hello, I am new to oscommerce. I want to create a new shop, but I do not want to enable the purchasing process at the very beginning. What is the smartest way to disable the process ? Thank you very much for your help Fabrice
vasttech Posted May 20, 2004 Posted May 20, 2004 You could do two things: First (highly recommended), I would not publish the link to your store until it is done and you are ready to go live. With that said, download the store to your pc, make an additional copy just for backup. Now you have two choices, you can get a copy of Apache/MySQL/PHP (there are a couple versions out there. I forget the link, but you can search the forums there are a lot of people who do it) and install it on your machine, now you have a way to test things locally. Or, you could just upload your files to the server and test there. This way you can get your site the way you want it without having people going there. If you mess something up just restore the file from your backup. The other way, is just to not enable any payment methods. But if you are publishing your site to search engines and such and people are coming to your store, you are probably going to get a lot of people upset they can not make purchases and will never come back. Maybe put a notice on the index page that you are currently building the site. You can also download a contribution that will close your store. It basically puts up a store closed for maintenance page. osCommerce Knowledge Base osCommerce Documentation Contributions
Bardey Posted May 20, 2004 Author Posted May 20, 2004 Hello, Thanks for your reply ... I havce realized that my question, was not clear enough ... What I want to do : I want to publish the catalog of all my products on the web, but I do not want - now - to sell them on line. May be I will want to do that later. In fact I want to use OSCommerce as a on line catalog giving me the possibilty to migrate easily to a "on line shop". I hope it is understandable (my native language is not english !) ... Thanks ! Fabrice
