Attributes trouble

 Hi all my first post and happy to join the community

Okay the problem im trying to overcome

I have a product which sells in all different sizes the sizes have been added as an attribute as a drop down list but i was wanting to deduct the appropiate stock from the inventory, but no joy in figuring this out and i cant seem to find any contribution for this :(

Basically if a customer went to buy a product just say a T shirt and the same Tshirt was in sizes< how would i be able to deduct from the inventory the correct size of the same shirt but i have added the sizes as an attribute, is there another way to do this in order to deduct from the stock as example polo jumper size 4 and in my inventory I have 20 size 3 and 10 of size 4 and i would like to see the inventory take that product out of the same type but different size how would that be possible.

I think someone told me if I added product I.D> ill be able to do it but i havent added a product I.D for any products as yet???

somebody if they can help as im dying trying to work this out

thanks in advance and any ideas given

you should use your accounting package for keeping track of your stock

Using the accounting package is great...but for some of us it's important that the website has the correct stock levels at all times. Otherwise customers can order merchandise that's not in stock and it can cause problems.

My suggestion is to use Master Products, not QTPro. I posted code in the Master Products support thread on how to create a dropdown list for all slaves to a master if you want to display it that way.

Master Products can be found in the contributions.

I use Master Products every day and have several clients who use it. It's worked great for me and them.

Why use Master Products over QTPro? QTPro is buggy and a very difficult install. Someone may come around to correct me, but I have yet to hear of anyone using it successfully. Support is nil - the website linked from the contributions page was down last time I checked and the forums are full of unanswered questions. When I tried to post on the forum for support I was contacted by the author offering a "professional install" at a pretty high cost. When I told him I wanted to get it done myself and asked a few questions about how things worked, I was ignored. Granted, that was quite some time ago and I was pretty clueless about php at the time, so who knows...maybe now it would be a different situation.

Master Products on the other hand works great straight out of the box, is a fairly simple install of you have a utility to compare files (I suggest Beyond Compare, do a Google search for it) and is well supported. The author (Matti on the forums) posts in the support thread on a regular basis. He's been very accomodating when I've asked him questions and helps just about anyone who posts in the support thread to solve their problems.

If you want to see it in action, here's an example using clothing in different sizes with a dropdown menu. It's just a temporary URL, so if it's gone when you get there post again here and I'll get the permanent address up:

Howie Day Direct

Check out the various t-shirts to see Master Products in action.

Edit - you can see what the standard setup of MP would look like here:

http://www.bluenoteweb.com/howiemerch/prod...?products_id=28

That page isn't linked anywhere from the store because the customer wanted the drop-down rather than the extended info page, but I never deleted it. You can see that the Master Product is listed with all of its slaves (sizes, in this case) and you can add as many different slaves to your cart at one time as you would like.

We managed to get QT Pro up and running on http://www.trainerstation.com (a brand new MS2 site)

You're right - it isn't the easiest of installs and we had to make a minor tweak to the code supplied to actually make it work however it's now running without any problems and together with an attribute manager installed, the sizes are easy to work with and manage

I haven't got any experience with Master Products but there were good reasons at the time why we discounted it instead of QT Pro.

I won't say it was easy to install but equally well, as long as you follow the instructions, it's not all bad

I have installed Master Products, but can't see to figure out the relations between the attributes, master and slave product.

Can someone enlighten me on this subject? As i'm very confused... :(

 I think this will help go to this section as its where you can post your queries for MASTER PRODUCTS

I installed QTPro with no problems. You must start from the first upload and work to the newest since there isn't one single complete version.

Make your life easier by using Beyond Compare with adding this contrib.

;) okay people ive also added QTpro no problems at all so far and it does exactly what i want it to do, i installed master products at first , no offense but im a newbie to this, i couldnt get Master products to work with my bundles which was a pain trying to work it out.

So i gave up on it as i never got any help regarding the Master products so i thought id give QTpro ago and hey presto it did exactly what i wanted it to do, im still in the middle of configuring it all to work properly, i didnt have any probs installing it, so that was a bonus as i had heard a few members stating they had problems, oh well i must be lucky.......

so if anyone is thinking of using attributes and wanting it to deduct from the stock i personally recommend QTPro as it worked for me but some people wil probably prefer Master products which is a smart contribution in it self....

SO A BIG THANKYOU TO THE DEVELOPERS FOR THE GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS
