Are you talking about "PayPal IPN" or "PayPal Shopping Cart IPN"?

 

PayPal Shopping Cart IPN I can't vouch for, but there's a pretty long support thread you can go read. There seem to be new messages in it daily.

 

I use PayPal IPN on my store every day. Here's the basic process of how it works:

Customer shops my store

Customer chooses PayPal payment

Customer completes payment with PayPal

PayPal sends a notification to my site (an IPN, or Instant Payment Notification)

99% of the time, that IPN gets there before the customer gets back.

Customer sees a screen on my site that says "Your payment has been completed!"

Next day the order ships.

 

How did I get it installed? I followed the directions in the contribution...it wasn't hard.

 

You'll need to edit your profile at paypal.com to include options for IPN, that's the answer to your second post. There will be a spot for "return URL" - that needs to match the return URL you specify in the payment module (you'll understand what I mean when you install it)
