password protecting admin

Hiya

 

I want to password protect my admin, how can this be done??

 

Ive got a control panel from my host, ive asked them how to do it, but they wont as it is `third party software`.

 

Ive tried contributions too but to no avail. All i want is a password to access admin. I do have the .htaccess file in the admin folder, so how can i access it etc??
