Interesting site.

Hard to guess it's osCommerce, without the explicit infoboxes.

How did you make that infoboxes transparent?

thanks for the generous reviews it's really appreciated. this site has over 60 contributions installed and has taken some time to complete and knowing people like yourselves like it make all the work worthwhile.

the "transparent" category images were done using the stylesheet

The "transparent" category images were done using the stylesheet.

Interesting! Could you develop this issue a little more, and tell us how it was done? I would appreciate an example of your stylesheet also. ;)

Now for the criticisms:

1) Lighten the dark fonts (category names...). They are not SO readable. Darken the light fonts ("featured products", "checkout"...). In this light font, they look like neon signs.

2) Stick to the core business. Personally, I don't like the offering of webdesign in the middle of your products. You would not put a new category called "CanCan Dance" and offer your service in weddings and parties just because you knew, would you? So the same here. I think that you should advertise your webdesign service in a Banner Ad, or some other way that is not SO related to your catalog. But, if you are going to leave it there, replace "intergration" with "integration".

:lol: What did you think, that you will get only "generous reviews"? :lol:

I would hope not!

My main reason for posting here was to get honest opinions from people who know about oscommerce, in the hope i would be able to improve my website design, as we all know everyone has different taste, therefore i thank you for your opinion and will be darkening the light fonts but think i will leave the font colour as it is in the category names as i feel it allows the background image to show through better

i will post how i achieved the transparency in the category buttons later tonight if i get 5 mins spare

thanks

right got 5 mins now so here goes.

i have installed "categories_css" contribution.http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ons,1486/page,2

then edited the stylesheet so it looks like below

#button {
padding: 0 0 0 0;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
background-color: #;
font-size: 16px;
color: #ffffff;
}

#button ul {
 list-style: none;
 margin: 0;
 padding: 0;
 border-top: 1px solid #000;
 }

#button li {
 border-bottom: 2px solid #363641;
 margin: 0;
 }

#button li a {
 display: block;
 padding: 5px 5px 5px 0.5em;
 border-left: 1px solid #000;
 border-right: 1px solid #363641;
 background-color:;
 color: #7F4783;/*button background*/
 text-decoration: bold;
 width: 100%;
 }

html>body #button li a {
 width: auto;
 }

#button li a:hover {
 border-left: 3px solid #8F02FE;
 border-right: 1px solid #000;
 background-color:;
 color: #B330BD;
 }
       #button li.selected  a {
 border-left: 3px solid #8F02FE;
 border-right: 1px solid #000;
 background-color:;
 color: #B330BD;
              }

where i want the button etc. to be transparent it should read like

"background-color: #;"

and not

"background-color: #ffffff;"

and thats about it

good luck

I like it alot!

Your enlarged product pictures sure are pixilated though. Find larger original pics instead of blowing up the small ones.

only a couple of the enlarged images are pixelated as these are the only images available at the moment, will re-do as soon as i get more images

thanks

Kudos for pushing the design possibilities of OSC. Implement the changes already suggested here and you will have a sharp looking and easy to navigate site.

ComShop;

As I said, great design.

But:

- You can see the corners of the category buttons in the right column.

WHy don't you make them transparent?

- I would still lighten the category fonts. Particularly, I have difficulty reading them.

Hi,

Just had a look at your site and its fantastic work! Well done indeed. You must have put quite some effort into it. I like the mypaysystems payment system that avoids you having to setup a secure server but don't you need one for users of UK debit cards? Didn't have time to put the site thru its paces <g> but everything looks a ok...

Cheers!

Quickly, I would say... 7.

Yeah, I think 7.

If not 7, go for 3, 2 or 1. In this order.

But my wife says I would not know the difference between yellow and brown, so better wait for other replies before changing on real life.

Changed the colour of the navigation buttons and i think it makes a big improvement. thanks for your input SGershon

Nice you liked the sugestion.

One more: put some image to represent XBox&PS2 console repairs.

I think everyother product you have has its image, so here should not be different. You can use the console picture, or something more ilustrative of the repair concept.
