DorianJ Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Step 4 of the http://wiki.oscommerce.com/docsInstallNew shows using a directory called 'catalog' to install the files into. Why would I want to use a directory called catalog? Why not just install into the root directory? What would happen if I use http://www.example.com/catalog/ to install right now, but then decide to move everything to the root level later? -Dorian -Dorian
agiftcodotcom Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 The reason some people want to install in a sub (catalog) is so that the root can still contain a full web site with your store being a supliment. However, if your store IS your site, then I would suggest simply installing it in the root. If you install it in /catalog for now and want to move it later, it's possible with a few adjustments. The main being a file titled "configure.php" in the /includes folder. It tells your store where to locate everything. If you originally install in a sub, you will need to remove "/catalog" from the command lines in that file if you move it later. Hope that makes sense.
