Peter Allen Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Please help. How do I start to install OS Commerce onto my site. Simple question sorry Peter
stevel Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 There is an INSTALL.TXT in the unpacked distribution file. You may also want to start reading at http://wiki.oscommerce.com/docsIntro , though at a quick glance, it confuses more than it helps. Guest Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Sorry for getting in between here. I have read the instructions, but the password and username issue is not realy addresses in this documentation. I can't get passed the test connection to the database since the username and password for the osCommerce database is not published...?

The db is established and controlled there. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
Guest Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Hi Alan, Thanks for your reply. When you say hosting control system, you are talking of my hosting supplier? I tryed the username and password of the control-panal which is used to login to the hositng panal (changing email passwords...). Is there a seperat password for any DB used on that server?
AlanR Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Is there a seperat password for any DB used on that server? Yes. When you visit your hosting control panel you either find a method to create a database with its own name, a user name and a password or you'll find that they've already set one up for you. The username and password for the db are independent of those used to access your control panel. While you're in there try to find the name of the database server. It's often localhost but not always. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
chrislundberg Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Use mysql control center, to setup database. Comes with triadd package. Create a database call it anything you want. example "store" then assign user to database that was just created like "yourname" and "password" make sure database is active as it will be highlighted green. now when you setup osc use the, info that you just did for entry. A easy setup for me was to use a bundle package called triadd...
