Best Practices for multiple stores/1 SSL site

I want to set up oscommerce for several different sites, but have them all access secure pages via one common domain.

For example, I have 3 stores running off of one ip address in virtual hosts:

http://www.gadgets.com/catalog/

http://www.widgets.com/catalog/

http://www.knickknacks.com/catalog/

When any of the three stores check out, I want them to go to the same secure server so that only one cert is needed to handle all secure transactions. When each store checks out they will go to:

https://secure.serviceprovider.com/gadgets.com/catalog/

https://secure.serviceprovider.com/widgets.com/catalog/

https://secure.serviceprovider.com/knickknacks.com/catalog/

Has anyone here implemented something along these lines? Is this possible using php sessions on the local filesystem as opposed to storing session data in a database? If anyone has already gone through the ins and outs of this, I sure would appreciate a look at a working httpd.conf and configure.php's :)
