Just over a month ago I downloaded osCommerce and decided to add an online store to the website.

After sleepless nights and lots of coffee and a lot of thread reading on these boards I finaly finished :D .... mind you I am still very green when it comes to PHP

So I am here to get some constructive criticism on the store and any comments would be appriciated ... good or bad

PinkieOnline .... The Store

I would also like to thank all the members that wrote threads on this board as it helped me immensly.

PS: there are still some bugs i have to iron out ... like how to get rid of the Weight comment in Checkout

Thanks everyone !

I really appreciate your feedback - keep it coming please ;)

I've revamped my logo/banner and have the new version ready to upload - so thanks mutter... i've taken your advice on board.

Not sure what corners you're talking about, herrgray  Do you mean the corner above the green chrome picture? If that's the case then I was thinking of making it square....

Know the worst part of all this??? After hours and hours and hours of work..... waiting for your first sale is nailbiting stuff huh? !!

Hello

I just visited your page, and i think the layout was stuning.

I'm setting up my commerce. And i wonder how your cool layout is made, do you made much changes to PHP Code, or is it just the CSS ?

Sorry for my stupid question, I'm kinda newbie in web and stuff

and sorry my bad english also :P

If someone want's to tell me how to make layout like that (not the colors, but the layout) can send me an e-mail

the layout looks fine.. its nice to see a layout other than the default one once in awhile.. aside from the layout- one thing i would add is a description of what you site sells on the front page. when i got there.. it took me awhile to figure out just what you were offering. other than that, good job

Hi there all, thanks for your advice ... i have taken it all on-board and done some changes.

mutter> you were right the logo did look a bit to simple so I took your advice and changed it ... so if you are online I would appriciate your new comment ;)

swanfly>I used the sts contribution as it allows me to do the layout in normal html, which is my strong point ... i am very week when it comes to php. The sts contribution was great as it is completely in html and lets you design the site as you want it, had to fiddle with the os stylesheets to get the colour right. If you need further help or clarification drop me an email :) only to happy to help

... have a question for anyone than can help ... how do i get rid of the 'Whats new' display on the shop front page, but the shop front page only ... so when one thn goes into the individual categories it still shows

Thanks a lot to everyone for your comments ... and please keep them coming wether good ot bad as I really do appriciate it :D

# This site is using HTTP compression, otherwise called content encoding using gzip. The sizes reported here are for compressed content sent from the server to the client.

* CSS alternate stylesheets may be referenced in the HTML but are not actually downloaded until they are needed and are therefore not included in the total page size.

Analysis and Recommendations

TOTAL_OBJECTS - The total number of objects on this page is 21 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.

TOTAL_IMAGES - The total number of images on this page is 17, consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.

TOTAL_SIZE - The total size of this page is 132153 bytes, which will load in 30.54 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider contacting us about our optimization services.

TOTAL_SCRIPT - The total number of external script files on this page is 1. External scripts are less reliably cached than CSS files so consider combining scripts into one, or even embedding them into high-traffic pages.

HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 4695 bytes, which less than 20K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your page to display content in well under 8 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.

IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 115656 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS.

SCRIPT_SIZE - The total size of your scripts is 4827 bytes, which is over 4K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents.

CSS_SIZE - The total size of your external CSS is 7055 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 8K. For external files, try to keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.

A very silly question  ... I think the problem I am experiencing is with my ISP but I thought I better ask ...

I am on cable and for some reason it takes me a very long time to load my site ... by long I mean I can go and make a cup of coffee and haven't missed much

Does anyone else have the same problem when viewing the site :(

thanks for your help ... so far :)

Hi Nick, the logo is much better. But i think that the big green space to the right of the logo is very useless. If you can make the logo "Pinkie Online" in a single line, i think the page will looks better...

...Your page loads fast in my 256kbsp adsl..

Sorry for my bad english :(

Your site is clean, but every page takes a long time(!). I would look into this. If you have to change ISPs because I clicked on your link then I started reading these posts while you site loaded, if I was interested in buying I would probably not be as patient.

Your product_info.php page is very nice. I didn't see a "buy" or "add to cart" link though. Oh, wait I see it now it is down at the bottom. I missed it at first, you might want to add another one closer to the top. It is ok to have two Add To Cart buttons.

nice job.

Thanks mutter ... Took your advice on board and yes the green space was a bit anoying ... i did for a while have the logo like you suggested but something was still missing ... so have added a bit more text ... well if you are online what is your verdict :)

joeyjgarcia > you are right the server was very slow ... after a lot of complaints they eventually took a look and apperently the swap disk was dead ... well they have fixed it now as it loads quicker .. thank god

Any feedback is very appricated ...

One last thing ... I am very new and green when it comes to PHP and would like to get rid of the "New Products For June" box, but just on the main page, Is that possible?

Thank you to everyone for looking and helping :D
