What is the best way to install contributions especially updating the php files. I have no problem with making changes to the database but, would like to know the best way to perform the upgrades to all the php files. Tried installing one contribution and was pummeled with error messages to the point of diving for cover. Can anyone help?

Each contribution is slightly different, some need a lot of customisation on your part to work, others are simple.

Basically, you follow the readme file in the contribution, and upload the files to the required places in your osCommerce installation. Use a text editor to modify the files you need to change yourself.

Personally, I keep a mirror of the osCommerce files on my own computer hard-disk - that way, if something goes wrong, I can easily go back to where I was before installing the contribution. It's also good practice to make a backup of your product database in MySQL.

Thank you for the reply.

Tried installing the "Hidden Products" contribution and unfortunately, the readme wasn't helpful. The attempt was done on a fresh install of osCommerce so, I hadn't lost any important information. Will try again because I need the option for customers to have access to only their products and unless there is another way to achieve this, "Hidden Products" is the only contribution I have found to make this possible.

Thank you again for your help,

Steve
