I hope someone can help me. I am trying to do the following:

Root Directory Installation

To install the catalog folder files into the root directory put the files from the catalog folder into the root directory & the admin folder into the root directory. Then, point your domain to:

yourserver.com/install/ and setup changing the Step 4 configuration to this:

**__Step 4 Root Installation__**

Please enter the web server information:

**WWW Address - http://www.example.com/**

The full website address to the online store

The web address to the online store, for example http://www.example.com/catalog/

**Webserver Root Directory - /home/username/public_html/ **

The server path to the online store

The directory where osCommerce is installed on the server, for example /home/myname/public_html/

**HTTP Cookie Domain - www.example.com**

The domain to store cookies in

The full or top-level domain to store the cookies in, for example www.my-server.com

**HTTP Cookie Path - / **

The path to store cookies under

The web address to limit the cookie to, for example /catalog/

**Enable SSL Connections - if you have ssl enable this **

Enable secure SSL/HTTPS connections (requires a secure certificate installed on the web server)

Set the permissions on:

/catalog/includes/configure.php

/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php to 706 or 777

If these permissions are not set correctly you will get an error when installing telling you the permissions are not set correctly.

Using phpMyAdmin or other tool, create your database and user, and assign that user to the database. Write down the name of the database, login, and password for this database for the install fields later on.

It might be because it is so late that I am having a hard time. But I am trying to figure out what the instructions want me to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Shar

I'm not quite sure what exactly your having a problem with?

If you are trying to install the cart to work AS your site in your base folder (i.e; not as www.yoursite.com/catalog)

You have to download the cart from the download page, upload everything in the catalog folder (I would put all the files right into your public_html folder) and then after everything is uploaded, go to http://www.yoursite.com/install and follow the directions.

Go ahead and let me know exactly what you are having trouble with pelase.

Well I uploaded catalog and admin folder to my public_html. Is that all I need to do before installing? I also have tried to go to www.yoursite.com/includes/configure.php but that gives me a page can't be found error. So I'm not sure if what I have done so far is correct.

Also I did the install and it came to the page to enter my hostname and database server info, but I get an error message that says "yoursite is not allowed access to this MySGL server". I emailed my hosting tech support and they have said that I can not connect to my server from my home pc. Well I'm confused because my business is a HOME business that I do from my HOME on my HOME pc. I asked them to clarify but haven't heard back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shar

If you do that the installer will fail.

Run the installer on the standard set-up, admin inside catalog and move admin later.

It will only mean a small edit to the admin configure.php file.
