Guest Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Hi There: I'm sure the following question will uncover the fact that I'm a newbie using osCommerce. I am a web developer and although I don't program in PHP, I have manipulated it with great success in the past. My weakness however, lies with database work. (I've only used Access). I've been sifting through hundreds of forum threads, but haven't found anything yet to answer my question (although I've picked up some other great tips to watch for in the process). I'm attempting to install osCommerce on my hosts' server which runs Windows platform. I've been hung up fairly early in the process when asked to upload the database. Can anyone advise on where to start to construct the database? Is there a template floating around anywhere so that I can even tell what fields are required? Your help is appreciated.
bluepony Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 You need to have MYSQL installed on the server. After that you need to create a database. Usually this is done by your host or using some type of cpanel or through phpmyadmin. After that, just insatall OSC. During the installation it will run a script which will create all of the tables and fields in the database. You don't need to create any tables or fields manually. I'd rather be flying!
Guest Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 start with mysql.com and get to know how that works, mysql connector, mysql odbc, phpmyadmin, etc
Guest Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 That almost sounds too simple to be true. Leave it to me to be looking for the hard route. Thanks for the help.
