Installation Help...

Is there anyone here who would be willing to help me install the oscommerce shopping cart system? I have never used PHP, and have gone through the instructions, but was left dumb-founded, to say the least.

Anyway, if anyone is willing to help out, please reply or e-mail me at [email protected].

Thanks,

Mike

Basically the entire installation process. I am not sure where to even start. When I follow the instructions, I am not sure what files it is talking about.

For example, what do I upload after I extract the files? Some of the things it says to customize, I have trouble finding.

You don't have to customize anything. Just upload the entire catalog folder to your website. Just let your ftp program upload it in "auto" mode so it detects which files are ascii and which are binary.

Then, make sure you know the name of your database server (often localhost). The name of the database you will be using (check your hosting control panel). Your database user name and your password for the database.

Then go to http://www.yoursitesname.com/catalog and watch. Fill in the blanks and 90% of the time you'll have it installed. If you run into a snag post back here.

Ok, I got through a good bit of it. Now, when I go to http://ash.phpwebhosting.com/~pilothangar/catalog/ I get an error message. Feel free to check it out, and let me know what I am doing incorrectly. So far, everything has gone successfully, until it sent me to the "Choose an action..." page.

Thanks,

You don't have a domain name resolved there yet?

The installer does not like back door access.

AlanR, so I should wait until the dns update goes through, and then try again?

Also, if I start adding products right now, will I be okay, or will they be lost in the transfer?

Wait till it resolves. I doubt you'll get it running right till it does. Others have tried and failed. The whole thing depends on knowing paths from your http domain and file server root.
