Best way to track traffic...

I have seen many people say, do not put a counter on your page for the public.

 

I have removed mine, but i was wondering is there any other way on OSC to track traffic?

 

Is there any codes or add-ons to track how many unique people have been on the site? eg, 1 hit per different IP address.

 

If so please tell me as i like to see what traffic im getting :)
