I am REALLY new to this. I installed 2.2M2 and it said it was successful. now what do i do? when i type http://bethstoys.com/catalog or even .....com/catalog/index.php it takes me to the install screen where you can choose new install or upgrade from 2.1 Exchange project. How do I get to the admin screen where i can enter my products? I've tried .....com/catalog/admin/index.php and it also takes me to the install screen. HELP! and be VERY specific about what I should type into what file since I have NO PHP experience.

As far as my settings go, this is what they are:

my domain name is BethsToys.com

my host is ipowerweb.com

the database server name is localhost

the database name and user id are both bethstoy_p_os1

I know my password but don't know if I should post it here or not...

I have the program located in public_html/catalog

the admin folder is in the catalog directory (public_html/catalog/admin)

Ipowerweb has version 2.1 on their system and to use it, i just go to their login screen under the osCommerce section. It just asks what my username and password are and then I'm at the admin page: https://host84.ipowerweb.com/~bethstoy/ecom...min/default.php

the catalog(user) page is at: https://host84.ipowerweb.com/~bethstoy/ecom...log/default.php

I tried installing the upgrade first, but wasn't sure if I should replace the old catalog and admin folders (which are in public_html/ecommerce/os/ ) with the new ones, or put the new folders into the root directory (public_html) like the instructions say to.

So, instead, I just did a new install into the root directory. So now, I have both the new program AND the old program on my host, they're just in different directories.

when I go to this page:

https://host84.ipowerweb.com/~bethstoy/cata...admin/index.php

I get this error:1046 - No Database Selected

select configuration_key as cfgKey, configuration_value as cfgValue from configuration

[TEP STOP]

Please don't tell me to "just configure those files" because I don't know what to type to configure them. Please Help! Thanks, Beth or call me Toll Free: 1-877-384-8697

Thank you! That did it! Now I just have to figure out how to fix this message: "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/bethstoy/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. " I'll check the archives first. Thanks again!

ok and if you've set those files to 444 and your still getting the error... your suggestions then are?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what "setting them to 444" means. I did finally figure out how to fix those two errors I was getting.

error message 1: Warning: Installation directory exists at: /home/bethstoy/public_html/catalog/install. Please remove this directory for security reasons.

To fix this, go into the file manager on your vdeck control panel and delete the install folder in the catalog directory.

error message 2: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/bethstoy/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

To fix this, use internet explorer as a browser and type ftp://domain.com . This is internet explorers ftp program. It will ask for your username and password just like it does when you log in to the vdeck. Go to the file public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php but don't open it. Instead, right click on the configure.php file and choose Properties. At the bottom, uncheck the box for "write" permission. Click OK. Exit the browser.

If you do not have Internet Explorer, I don't know how to set the permissions. But, you want to make sure the configure.php file only has read permission, not write permission.

I'm going to post a new topic that has complete setup instructions for ipowerweb users. I'll call it, "Installation for ipowerweb users".
