austin Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Hi, I am trying to update currencys and I get this error ... ?Warning: The primary exchange rate server (oanda) failed for Dollar (USD) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. ?Error: The exchange rate for Dollar (USD) was not updated via xe. Is it a valid currency code? ?Warning: The primary exchange rate server (oanda) failed for Euro (EUR) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. ?Error: The exchange rate for Euro (EUR) was not updated via xe. Is it a valid currency code? ?Warning: The primary exchange rate server (oanda) failed for Pound (GBP) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. ?Error: The exchange rate for Pound (GBP) was not updated via xe. Is it a valid currency code? These 3 currency codes are obviously valid This worked perfectly until a couple of days ago. Can anybody help me out? has anybody experienced this before? might my hosting company have changed anything or what protocol is used for updating remotely? thanks Austin
♥Vger Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 No, I can't remember this happening before. It sounds like a connectivity problem though - perhaps your ISP's response to your request is timing out at the exchanges. Try using a different dial-up and see if this makes any difference. Vger
meyerula Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I have the same problem, and haven't been able to fix it.
austin Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 cheers 4 the reply vger, it's def not an ISP timeout problem as the response takes only a second (if that makes sense) but do you think it could be something to do with my host as I know they have upgraded recently. Might they have forgotton to turn something back on in PHP? Do you know if anything should be turned on for this update to take place? cheers Austin
austin Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 actually, maybe I'm clutching at straws here but when I press update currencies, this is the page that is executed ... http://www.physique.biz/catalog/admin/curr...=&action=update now it looks like there is no value for cID which means the problem is my end can someone try this out and see what page is executed in their browser history cheers Austin
austin Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 sorry the end of that should be /catalog/admin/currencies.php?page=1&cID=&action=update ta Austin
myriam Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 :( I'm having the same problem. At first I wasn't aware that I could actually get updated currencies from oanda or ex as this problem has been happening since I started the shop. Warning: file(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /html/peaceshamrock/admin/includes/functions/localization.php on line 14 Warning: file(http://www.oanda.com/convert/fxdaily?value=1&redirected=1&exch=USD&format=CSV&dest=Get+Table&sel_list=GBP): failed to open stream: Success in /html/peaceshamrock/admin/includes/functions/localization.php on line 14 Warning: implode(): Bad arguments. in /html/peaceshamrock/admin/includes/functions/localization.php on line 18 etc.etc.. When I go back to the currencies, there are error messages as follows: Warning: The primary exchange rate server (xe) failed for American Dollar (USD) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. Error: The exchange rate for American Dollar (USD) was not updated via oanda. Is it a valid currency code? Warning: The primary exchange rate server (xe) failed for Sterling (GBP) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. Error: The exchange rate for Sterling (GBP) was not updated via oanda. Is it a valid currency code? Warning: The primary exchange rate server (xe) failed for Euro (EUR) - trying the secondary exchange rate server. Error: The exchange rate for Euro (EUR) was not updated via oanda. Is it a valid currency code? I have tried both oanda and xe as the primary servers - this doesn't change anything. Basically, what I have done is set my default currency to GBP (also changed this in english.php) and gave it a value of 1.00000000. I then added USD with the current conversion rate on oanda of 1.50610995 I then added EUR with the current conversion rate on oanda of 1.78770006 I am assuming the 'update currencies' button should update the currency rate by checking them on the oanda or xe server, rather than having to manually update them?? I have not been able to find out much information about this. Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong. Thanks
austin Posted April 29, 2004 Author Posted April 29, 2004 Hi Myriam Don't take this the wrong way but I'm a bit glad I'm not the only one with this problem. The update button is supposed to update currencies remotely with XE and Oanda. I know its never worked 4 u but mine was fine until it suddenly stopped a few days back. I've given up hope of finding a solution on these boards as nobody else seems to have experienced this and so nobody is equipped to provide a solution. To the best of my knowledge, I did not change anything that would have caused this. I have tried deleting and replacing currencies - I have also tried replacing the following files suggested by someone else .. admin/includes/currencies.php admin/includes/functions/localization.php admin/includes/languages/english/currencies.php none of this works - I have tried to find out if my host could have done something 2 cause this but nobody seems to know that either - the saga continues - keep in touch if ur fairygodmother lands on your site ta Austin
austin Posted April 30, 2004 Author Posted April 30, 2004 I've discovered that my hosting company changed servers last week - does anybody know of something they may have overlooked when reinstalling php?

KiltOtter Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 Austin I am also having the problem... Windows XP server, IIS, PHP, mySQl combination What you running? I am going to check at home as well, and see if it will work on a LAMP system rather than a WIMP/WAMP. Have you got anywhere at all? Ady
steadfastnz Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 It looks like a permission setting on the server. It appears a lot of hosts are tunning this off for security, the currency update needs it on. Try this solution - it worked for me Currency Fix
bonzabuy Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I have had this problem & tried everything...until I went into my default language (again) in Admin & selected add as default again & updated VOILA! Jesus came to save us & now the update works! (for me)
