HMT Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Hi, I would like to install osCommerce in my WinXP PC. What is the minimum software do I need to install in order to try this product. I hope I do not need Unix or like. Currently the PC has IIS and SQL server installed. Can you provide me with a step to step method in achieving my goal of setting up a shopping site with osCommerce. - starting from the software its source etc. PS. I have created a website based on PHP and Mysql (not on my PC) and it is soon to go live on the internet. As I am new to this your help will be highly appreciated. (In the past I mainly developed in ASP and like that from MS) Cheers.
detsouvalas Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Well ... With no restrictions or special requirements, osCommerce can be installed on any PHP3 or PHP4 enabled web server, on any environment that PHP and MySQL? supports, which includes Linux, Solaris, BSD, and Microsoft Windows environments. Taken from the Wiki Site, where you can find the rest of the installation instructions! Antonios
HMT Posted April 26, 2004 Author Posted April 26, 2004 Thank you that was very helpful, I have now created a site for osCommerce in one of my hosted site directly. No problems in setting up. However it is eating up my bandwidth as I work on it directly. Now I would like to create this site in my own PC at home so that I may be able to do changes in work PC and when I am happy then I will post the code to the hosted site in the internet. Currenty My PC has the following configuration: win xp professional, IIS5.0, sql server - all Microsoft. - no unix or apache etc. The question is that can I install PHP, Mysql and others as required for running osCommerrce without disrupting or sacrificing the any part of the IIS? As I have some other applications written in ASP and SQL Server are runnig in this PC. If so I would be very much appreciate if one can direct me in the step to step guide. Cheers.
detsouvalas Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 Well ... I can't help you, I don't know, I don't use IIS! Logically, you should be able to install PHP on your webserver without disrupting or sacrificing any part of the IIS. Well, as for the database, you can try to make an installation locally (after installing PHP) and see how it goes! Regards, Antonios
