Easy Populate Uploads

All my manufacturer product descriptions are in 1,000 of text files. We of course know which one belongs to which product but the problem is getting OS Commerce to read the text file rather than just copy and pasting the info into the product description.

Of course it would be perfect if these text file names could be defined in easy populate and be referenced from there (just like the image files are) with the output in the product description.

For a brute force solution, hire a Kelly Girl for a couple of days. Tell her to build a table in Word that has the required number of columns. In the column where the descriptions go she can insert a file for each row. After everything is in the Word table, save it as a tab-delimited file. EasyPopulate should eat this. If you have to, run the tab-delimited file through Excel before giving it to EasyPopulate.

are the text files in sequential number, along with the products or easy enough to reference? if so, create a macro to open the text file and insert everything into a field next to the model #, then merge that to the store. if you already have product with these #'s, it will update them.

Thanks for your help. I guess it is an excellant solution. The only problem being, I have no idea how to create and write a macro.

All detailed product descriptions are contained in individual text files which are listed in the description field of a csv created Easy Populate TAB file. ie:

code title description image price may read

7658 Pete Book pete.txt pete.gif 1.69

7521 John Book john.txt john.gif 1.99

Any help would be appreciated.

Just in addition to the last post, if you can help me with a macro, you would also need to tell me where to put it if you know what I mean :D

Thanks again.

OK, got another odd query with this. In the v_description I have inserted the hmtl

<p><a href=\"#\" onClick=\"MyWindow=window.open(\'http://www.petsparadise.co.uk/catalog/images/textfiles/caninea.txt\',\'MyWindow\',\'toolbar=no,location=no,title=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollba
rs=yes,resizable=yes,width=700,height=220,left=150,top=400\'); return false;\"><font size=2 face=Arial color="#FF0000">More Information</font></a></p>

Now it uploads via EP fine. When you loof at the link though the colour is gree and the text file page can't be found.

If you then go into the product edit in Admin, press the edit button but DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING then click preview and save the link turns to RED and all works fine.

I am completely lost with this now so if anyone can help I would be greatful.
