Drimmie Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 My company is running OSC w/ a DB of close to 2,000 products. OSC works fine, but is very slow in loading. What can be done about this? Im still going thru the learning process and need some help here. Thank you Jason
stevel Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 The size of the DB shouldn't matter, unless you're trying to list all 2000 products on one page. It may be that your host is slow - mine is quite fast. (See my WWW link below.) The other possibility is that you have something on your pages that loads slowly, such as an off-site banner ad. I dont know what it could be. Here, you can see for yourself http://www.postersnthings.com/catalog/
Guest Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 You can start by removing your categories count in admin->configuration->my store->show category counts (set it to false) The_Bear
TerryK Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Your main page and catalog pages opened quite quickly for me, particularly considering there are no images on them. Where I saw a slowdown was on the product info pages: the product image for Cafe at Night (Van Gogh) is 35K -- quite hefty! If all of your product images are in that neighborhood for file size, I would suggest: 1) Optimizing your images using Photoshop or another similar graphics application. You should be able to get your main picture size down to around 10K by saving it at low resolution (72ppi) with low quality option. 2) Create separate thumbnail images for initial display. You should be able to produce a small thumbnail at around 1-2K using same spec's as above. I believe there are programs available to do the work for you. (Check the contrib's section.) stevel Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 It seemed reasonably quick to me, though I think listing 150 items on a page (lobby cards) is perhaps asking for trouble. Anything you can do to reduce the number of database queries is good.
