cdi-buy.com Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Please review the layout and color scheme of my store. It's purpose is described on the main page. I haven't added too many mods yet and I know I have to eliminate the ugly clipart and as soon as my dead brain thinks of policies/shipping/etc to fill in, I will get on that. army-exchange.com
Guest Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 I like the concept! Your banner logo is just a little difficult to read. Can't wait to see when you get done. Dave
cdi-buy.com Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 Your banner logo is just a little difficult to read. It's not meant to jump out at you because everything the military wears is cammo and therefore difficult to see. I'm pretty much done with it for now, other than adding my shipping/returns, privacy information, etc. I don't want to be too complex because it's a straighforward listing system with no shipping, discounts, etc.
cdi-buy.com Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 Not many people are interested in a military website eh? <_<
guanche Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Neat concept and I think the colors scheme goes well with your target audience but how does a soldier list a classified, I don't see that spelled out anywhere? I'd also be interested in knowing if there is a classified system mod for OSC out there or if this is something you are coding yourself? Your idea of simple is the smart way to go for this site, I look forward to seeing it develop.
cdi-buy.com Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 it's actually going to be simpler than a mod. I'm treating the listings as items to purchase, ie 2 lamps is a listing, a sofa is a listing, etc even if its from the same person. Checkout is the same except there are no shipping fees. Sellers will upload pictures with brief descriptions and I will enter them into the system. Some of it will be manual but I intend to keep "junk" off my site (stuff that would never sell in the first place) I don't expect it to grow too much so I can do some work by hand. I won't have to touch any products because the seller will be responsible for getting it to the buyer, via shipping or pickup, etc. Newspapers aren't responsible for getting the items from the seller to the buyer so why should I? I'm still working on writing up the policies to spell everything out on my site. I just put pics of my laptop and my network card just as filler for now (they aren't real listings in Ft Benning or Ft Gordon), unless someone really wants them for real. As far as soldiers paying for their listings, I am going to create a "product" called Daily Listing Fee (or something to that effect) that they can purchase as many quantities (Days) as desired and then they pay with PayPal or money order. as soon as payment clears, I put their listing on the website and set it to expire in however many days they purchased.
phooey04 Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Interesting idea and nice theme. As was mentioned earlier your logo is difficult to read. I know you were going for a "camo" theme, but it needs to be easier to read - this is your brand. It sounds like you will be able to handle the manual uploading of product pictures and descriptions for now, but if you do get overwhelmed I would consider looking into one of the many Open Source auction packages available. Good luck!
cdi-buy.com Posted April 24, 2004 Author Posted April 24, 2004 ok I made the logo stand out a LITTLE more - I don't have much room to work with because it will begin to clash with the theme. I tried using auction/classifieds systems and they didnt work as well as I was hoping. I'm planning to get more into the code soon and allow people to list their own items.
pinkstarsunshine Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I really, really, like the camo-color theme and layout of the site. Neatly done.
DELETE_ME Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Interesting Idea, have you thought about checking out some of the other military options for supply? for example bscexpress.com *not to advertise our site but more the program. I will be forwarding you're link on to some of our store managers who had soldiers looking for this type of deal. I hope you dont mind. contact me some time.
cdi-buy.com Posted May 31, 2004 Author Posted May 31, 2004 It's still under construction but feel free to spread the word. It's operable as-is, just not full-featured yet. At the moment I don't plan to have "suppliers". This is merely a way for soldiers to sell to each other. I don't even intend to make money off of it. I'm doing it because I was in the Army and got injured so I can no longer serve. This is my way of doing my part, as small as it may be.
DELETE_ME Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 I will be in touch with you, maybe a partner ship may be in order. This is a great idea for soldiers on the move, currently we deal with navy, army, airforce , and the guard.
cdi-buy.com Posted May 31, 2004 Author Posted May 31, 2004 Just email me via the forums, or [email protected].
bluepony Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 You may want to lock down some of your folders from being indexed. For example: http://www.army-exchange.com/images/ I'd rather be flying!
cdi-buy.com Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 Yeah I know I just got lazy. I'm gonna do it now. Thanks for the reminder.
mijman2 Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 when you click on new listing it goes wider than the normal page
cdi-buy.com Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 oops... I had one set as 75% and the other as 780 pixels. thanks for noting that. it's fixed now.
