9000 items - need help

Hi,

Like most folks, I'm a novice that has searched for hours for my answers, but have not found them. I have a site using MyCart - they just raised the monthly cost to $90 with a .5% fee on MY sales at www.kodiak-cutting-tools.com

I have 9000 items that I have on an excel spread sheet.

1) what's the best way to get them into a shopping cart? I keep seeing "EasyPopulate" does that come with the package, or is it an add on?

2) An example of my product is drill bits. I would like to have a photo of a drill bit at the top of the page, then have a spread sheet listing the diameters, lengths, P/N's and prices. Next to each choice, I would like to have a drop down menu with quantity choices (12,24,36..etc). At the bottom of the page I would like one "ADD TO CART" button that would add any of the quantities to the shopping cart.

Is this doable?

Thanks

1) Yes EasyPopulate will do that for you. It's what's called a Contribution which means it is an add on to the basic osCommerce installation. Take a look at the contributions link at the top of this page.

2) Yes this is doable using another contribution called Master Products.

Thanks to Spib. I didn't see the contributions button at the top of the page. Can I have drop down quantity choices? Some of my products come in packages of 3pcs. Some come in 12pcs. Some come sold individually.

Thanks

Master Products will allow this (see http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67284 for info).

How you set it up depends on how your stock is arranged. If for example you have prepackaged 3 & 12 packs, you will probably be best defining a slave product for each pack size.

So you would have a master product called Drill Bits and the slaves would be

8mm Drill Bit 3 Pack

8mm Drill Bit 12 Pack

This will allow you to keep stock counts against each pack size.

The other alternative is to have only one slave product and have fixed order quantities. So the slave would be called 8mm Drill Bit and the customer would be able to order 3 or 12 of them.

Hopefully this is clear.
