only two product catagories on main page

What would be the best method to create to product page for only to catagories to appear on the main page. The first catagory has only three products, and the other may change, but only contain three at this moment. I have looked into the Feature Products contribution, but I am unsure if it will work for me. One catagory product scection or box will appear at the top of the page, while the other furhter down to the problem, with html or images in between. I have found the Simple Template System to integrate HTML. Any suggestions would be very welcomed.
