Importing vendor stock into my catalog

Can I somehow take a file with my vendors stock information and import this into my catalog? I would like to do this through ftp everyday...but any suggestions or links to info would be helpfull.

depends upon the format the vendor gives it to you in and how well you are at manipulating data

I can get the data in any format after sometime...but how would I import anything at all?
