mcadamania Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Ive just about finished my site! The truth is im only 15 and im setting up this for my aunts shop. lol. ;) The site is Silver Gemstones Online Please check it out and tell me what you think! I want as much critisism and advice please. Oh yeh, the sites not finished, i still gotta edit the stylesheet a little, and add a lot more products :D thanks
Guest Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 1) You need to change the alt tag on your top banner. It still says osCommerce. 2) Your "lets see what we have here" gif is missing. 3) If your site is only in English then you don't really need the language box. 4) If you remove the language box you might want to make the banners more the same length. Move some boxes to the right banner. 5) "Copyright ? 2003 osCommerce". Don't forget to change that at some point and update the year. 6) On your catalog/create_account.php page do you really need Gender, Date of Birth, Company. 7) Might want to get some more opinions but selling Jewelry you may want to cut the list of countries that you sell to down a lot. 8) The "Let's See What We Have Here" on your product pages can be changed with a contribution called "catagory descriptions". 9) Your pictures and the background of osC on your catagory pages are slightly different colours. If you could make the osC background match the products it would look very professional. Keep up the good work :) Peter
mattwho Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 you pics are being squeshed (sp) only set the height or width but not both in Admin.
mcadamania Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 ok, thanks, any more info? Do you think it looks like a Pro site? Also how to i move the info boxes over to the right column? martin
rseigel Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Do you think it looks like a Pro site? Nope. But then again it's little more than a stock OSC site with a few minor changes. You're not going to have anyone here get excited about that. For starters, lose the splash page. It doesn't do a thing for your site except require your visitors to make one more click.
mcadamania Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 Basically, i am doing what i can without learning php. I still got a lot to learn, this is my first php project! Also, i really just wanted to make it look good enough for people to buy the products. If i can, i will snazz it up, if it will increase sales. martin
mcadamania Posted April 22, 2004 Author Posted April 22, 2004 Started again...... http://www.silvergemstones.co.uk/catalog3/ Feedback please, martin
Guest Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 You have some missing images in Newsdesk, might want to reload them again. Is there anything you can do with the white around your products? It doesn't match the blue background. There is a lot of wasted space in your search box, maybe tighten that up a bit and make the word "search" a bit bigger. I have about 1/4" scrolling on the screen, maybe less of an outside border would be better. With the stickies do you need reviews also? Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tep_catalog_href_link() in /home/sites/site79/web/catalog3/login.php on line 102 On your login page Other than that error you are off to a really great start here, keep it up. Peter
mcadamania Posted April 22, 2004 Author Posted April 22, 2004 Yeh i plan on editing the product images again. Also, that was my problem, i dont know how to get the search closer together, i tried to move it down below the box from beside, and it jumped 4 lines! Ive still to move about and delete the info boxes - the stickies and reviews etc. how to i fix this error :S Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tep_catalog_href_link() in /home/sites/site79/web/catalog3/login.php on line 102 Im a newb at coding so please help!
Guest Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tep_catalog_href_link() in /home/sites/site79/web/catalog3/login.php on line 102 If it is just the standard osC file I would reload the file. If you loaded a contribution then I would go over the instructions again, you might have missed something. Then search the forum section and if that fails post it to the appropriate forum. I have enough trouble fixing my own error messages so I can't help you more than this. Peter
