Problems when adding users and confirming orders

Hi,

I am havinga couple of problems with my installation of oscommerce. I have installed it twice and the exact same thing happened both times which makes me thing it could be some other server issue rather than oscommerce itself.

Here's what's happening :

When a user creates a new account and submits the information it will often take quite a long time before coming back with the following error from create_account.php :

Your E-Mail Address already exists in our records - please log in with the e-mail address or create an account with a different address.

Note that even though the error is reported the user has in fact been added to the database and is at this stage logged into the system, so despite the error the account was in fact created. It looks like the account has been added to the database before the check for multiple email addresses takes place. Although I'm a programmer of other languages I have never used php before.

I am also getting additional problems :

When a user confirms their order the confirmation process does not complete and the user is left with a 'This page cannot be displayed' error message.

The site is at http://store.web-serve.net/catalog

I'd like to know what wrong with it so I can install a seperate fully working version with ssl enabled - I already have ssl installed but to make sure the problem was not caused by ssl I used this seperate installation which has the exact same problem as the other installation o nthe same server - and in case anyone needs to know - I am using different databases within the same mysql server which is on the same server as the php site.

Any ideas ?

Perhaps someone who really knows their stuff will offer me an installation service to ensure this job gets done within the next few days.

Thanks
