PayPal Contribution?

Hi,

 

Is there a contribution that integrates into paypal that will carry along the customer's information so they don't have to enter it twice once they get to paypal?

 

If not, has anyone done this with osCommerce?

It depends where in the world you're located. It is no longer necessary, in the USA, for customers to have to register with PayPal before making a payment to you. This feature is something you can now select from within your PayPal account, but it only (at the moment) applies to the USA.

Thank you, that helps since I am in the US.

 

So, if I select the feature you are describing in my PayPal account, would the customer only have to enter their credit card information at the PayPal site, or would they have to enter thier name and address again when they enter their credit card info?

This is great that a customer no longer has to sign up for a paypal account to use the service. I think this will increse sales alot! Although, this does not mean that they will not have to fill in there name billing address and credit card number on the paypal screen. All this means is that they do not have to go through the whole account sign up thing at paypal. I was wondering the same thing, if anybody has come up with a way for the address info to be carried over from their account info in the OSC program onto the paypal screen where they have to type in there credit card number.

The standard paypal module in CVS now also sends the customers details to paypal so they dont need to be entered again.

Can someone explain HOW the IPN contribution is better than the Paypal option in 2.2 MS2?

 

I have a UK account, and I find that the details required by Paypal are a bit long winded.

 

What details will they need to give to Paypal if I install the IPN???

In the IPN module the customer is automatically returned to your site after completing the purchase, and does not have to click on a 'continue' link to be returned to your site. With this 'continue' link (the standard module) it is necessary for the customer to click it, else their details don't get entered into your osCommerce database. The IPN validates the sale against an address in your database, encrypted transmission, and when the sale is complete the details are entered into your database. The amin drawback of this for small outfits, is that it only resolves to one e-mail address on your PayPal account, so if you have several e-mail addreses on the same account, for seperate websites, the customer will always get returned to the website that the IPN applies to.

 

By the way, I too am in the UK, and it's hoped that the other feature (no registration) will soon be rolled out to the UK and the rest of Europe.

If you only have the one site on your paypal account then I'd go for the IPN module. It will take some installing and configuring to get it working, but it appears to be a good system. The reason I don't use it is simple, I run multiple sites with multiple e-mail addresses, and IPN is no good for that sort of use.

 

If you have multiple sites and e-mail addresses on your PayPal account then I'd wait for the rollout of the new feature in the UK and rest of Europe.
