Yahoo style directory

First, I am just getting started with oscommerce, and I am teaching myself both php and mysql. I have changed most of my site layout without any problems, but I have one major thing left to do. I need to create a Yahoo style directory using my catalog catagories / subcatagories. I'm not trying to be lazy by posting this, as I presume this will not take that much work to accomplish, but I was wondering if someone has already written the code needed to do this - any time I can save is a very welcome thing. I've spent some time searching the contributions as well as the forum, but I'm not sure if I've just missed what I'm looking for. If anyone could help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

BTW- If you want to see what I'm talking about, just pull up yahoo. The bottom half of their home page has what they call a "Web Site Directory." This is what I'm looking to imitate.

Right now I'm sifting through the osCommerce code trying to figure out how I would go about listing my catalog catagory names above their first level subcatagories. Since all this involves is simply displaying the information that is already stored in my database, I can't imagine it's that difficult. Even so, I am finding myself a little stumped as to how I would echo this data. I would also like to create a cut-off for the amount of subcatagories displayed.

If anyone has already done this and could offer help, that would be great. Or maybe someone who knows a little more about oscommerce, php, and mysql could offer some pointers or starting points. I am learning everything as I go, so anything would be appreciated.

Why go thru all this? There are FREE scripts for this at hotscripts etc that create yahoo directories.

Save us all some time.
